A Message from Joseph R. Bankoff, Committee Chair

The Nominating Committee for the Ivan Allen Jr. Prize for Social Courage invites suggestions of recipients for the award. The $100,000 prize is in recognition of service to humanity without regard for publicity and even at personal risk to life and reputation.

The award has been established to honor the late, great Mayor Ivan Allen Jr., who led Atlanta through the turbulent sixties with courage, dignity, and remarkable success. His demeanor, his willingness to risk ridicule and rejection from peers, and his steadfastness in the cause of justice for all make him a role model for great citizenship and leadership everywhere.

Because his character and moral strength are an example for all, nominations are invited irrespective of region or nationality.

Joseph R. Bankoff, Committee Chair, The Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, Georgia Institute of Technology
